The Susquehanna Valley Country

Hummels Wharf.
Steeped in history, the Susquehanna Valley Country Club was founded in 1919 and has since become a familiar meeting place for those residing in the Valley and beyond. Dating back to 1909, the Club was formally named the Rolling Green Country Club. Ten years later, on July 12, 1919, the Susquehanna Valley Country Club adopted its current name. At this time, ground was also broken for the new Clubhouse, which was styled and built to model Spanish architecture that was popular at the time. The original clubhouse, as seen in the photo to the left, was built for just $41,000. It later became the home of the Roman Spangler family. Spangler purchased the park in 1953 after managing it for a few years. He continued as owner and operator through the 1960s.

During this time period, a number of other additions were made. In or around 1950, the Club built a small swimming pool and had a nine-hole golf course in front of the Clubhouse and Routes 11 & 15. In 1959, the back nine was added, and in the early 1960s, a larger second pool was constructed.
Interestingly, the Club has played host to a number of famous golfers including Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Sam Sneed, Ed Dougherty, Laurie Rinker, Jan Stephenson, Bobby Clampett, Kris Tschetter, and more.
